Milwaukee Bucks Hackathon
January 27-31, 2025
The Milwaukee Bucks Hackathon is an annual analytics competition that challenges undergraduate college students to solve real business and basketball challenges for the Bucks organization. Engineered by Modine Manufacturing, the most recent event attracted over 80 students from nearly a dozen schools worldwide, competing in both Basketball Analytics and Business Analytics tracks. Notable winners include the University of Chicago, UC Berkeley, and Syracuse University in the Basketball Track, while the University of Toronto, UW-Milwaukee, and UC Berkeley excelled in the Business Track. A standout achievement came from the University of Central Florida's industrial engineering team, who won the third annual competition by developing sophisticated analytics solutions including random forest machine learning algorithms, neural networks, and multi-variate linear regression models to improve ticketing strategies and fan experience. First-place winners receive VIP tickets to a Bucks home game, transportation and hotel accommodations if needed, and on-court recognition during the game, making it an excellent opportunity for identifying emerging talent in sports analytics while generating innovative solutions for the organization's challenges.
