Palo Alto Secure The Future

This academic competition challenges actively enrolled undergraduate students to develop comprehensive cybersecurity strategies for protecting business systems against increasingly sophisticated cyber-attacks. Participants will engage in critical decision-making processes, analyzing and selecting advanced security tools and methodologies to safeguard operational assets and maintain stakeholder trust. Students are required to research and develop a competition report, summary video, and presentation that address key aspects of cybersecurity, including end-to-end attack detection, alert triage, threat hunting, investigation techniques, orchestration of security measures, and automated response activities. This initiative aims to prepare future cybersecurity practitioners and leaders to tackle real-world challenges in protecting corporate business systems and applications. By participating, students will gain valuable experience in assessing cyber threats and implementing robust defense strategies. The competition is open to new participants, with previous winners of STF competitions being ineligible to participate, ensuring fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to cybersecurity challenges.

HIVESTORM

Hivestorm is a collegiate-focused cyber defense competition. Teams compete by securing provided Windows and Linux based virtual machines - removing malware and other infections, correcting misconfigurations, mitigating vulnerabilities, disabling vulnerable services, and so on. Teams accumulate points for addressing each scored issue and must race against the clock to accumulate as many points as they can before time expires.

The NCL competition provides students with experience in solving real-world cybersecurity challenges such as identifying hackers from forensic data, pentesting and auditing vulnerable websites, recovering from ransomware attacks, and more.
A weekend-long competitive event where individual players will attempt to solve as many challenges as they can.

CyberForce Competition
Nov 8-9, 2024

The Department of Energy (DOE) leverages the technical expertise of its national laboratories to develop unique scenarios and facilitate participation by students from across the United States. Currently in its ninth iteration, the CyberForce Competition works to increase 1) hands-on cyber education to college students and professionals, 2) awareness of the nexus between critical infrastructure and cybersecurity, and 3) basic understanding of cybersecurity within a real world scenario.

A weekend-long competitive event. Players will compete in teams of up to 7 and work to solve as many challenges as they can. You can also participate as a team of 1 if you would like to compete solo.

Waukesha County Technical College's AI Innovation Challenge
November 23, 2024 | 11am - 3pm

Hosted at Waukesha County Technical College, Sponsored by Perplexity, and Organized by Epochal Intelligence:
This competition welcomes students from any major to utilize AI for the better. Competitors will be presented with multiple problems the day of the challenge. They must then choose a problem and efficiently determine a solution for it.

The solution can be: a slide deck, speech, website, or anything else you can create. Your submission will be graded by a panel of judges.
Prizes will be awarded to the winners consisting of cash, merchandise, and more.

Competitors are required to bring their own devices. This event is in person but will not supply computers.

Location: Waukesha County Technical College - AI Lab at the Q Building
